New Place to Volunteer/New Topic!

So I have decided to change my topic from nonprofit organization to (drum roll please)... dog care! During the summer I volunteered at a nonprofit that focused on environmental issues and feeding/taking care of there animal sanctuary. It was a great place, but my passion is really more towards animals specifically dogs. During the summer my cousin told me she was about to apply to volunteer at a no kill animal rescue in Chino Hills(15 mins away from Ipoly called "Priceless Pet Rescue") but hesitated when she saw the question "How confident do you feel talking to people?". Coming from Ipoly were you are forced to talk to people, I thought about applying there but stopped because I thought it was to late to change topics.

It wasn't until last Thursday that I decided to submit my application and sure enough the next morning they said yes. Its kind of different because there is no specific schedule and you apply for days you want online as long as there are still spots open (which I thought was way better).

So on Wednesday I went for the very first time and depending on how it would go determined if I would change my topic or not. It obviously went very well since I am changing my topic. It was a great experience volunteering my time with the animals and am looking forward to continue to volunteer there.

Walking Sasquatch for the first time (not sure why she is called that)

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

1.  Who do you plan to interview?  Why?
I plan to interview  one of the supervisors who volunteers at Priceless Pet Rescue (a nonprofit no kill animal rescue). I plan on asking her because she has been around as a volunteer and has experience taking care of the rescued dogs. She is not just a volunteer but a supervisor who looks over the volunteers.

2.  You have to ask 5 questions.  What additional questions do you plan to ask?
Additionally to the 5 questions required, I plan on asking her if she would be willing to help me out with the senior project if I have any trouble. As far of other questions, depending on what she responds new questions might arise.

Blog 3:Topic Choice and Semester 1 ESLR Goals

1.  List your topic here: Non Profit Organization
2.  -iPoly Citizen
To grow as an I Poly citizen I plan on being punctual to school everyday. I have always had a problem with tardies since I was younger but I'm just tired of  it and want to change. For the past three days I have been to school with at least 10 minutes to spare before school starts and I plan on keeping it that way. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal to be on time, but to someone who is well know by Stacy it is definitely a big deal.
 -Effective Learner
To grow in the effective learner category I plan to not procrastinate on projects. I don't do it as much as I used to in freshmen year but there have been times last year where I did procrastinate  Procrastinating is not the best of feelings especially because it effects the learning experience. As in terms of core classes I plan on ask for help in physics if I begin to struggle so I won't fall behind. By either asking Mrs.Pittman for help, getting tutoring from peers, or even studying with others.
-Effective User of Technology
In this category, I've never really excelled but I was never horrible at it too. For example this whole blog idea is completely new to me but I've already gotten the hang of it simply by exploring my different options. Which I guess in a way is kind of like trial and error on what does and doesn't work for me and that is how I plan to grow as an effective user of technology. Whether throughout future projects that require technology or senior project I want to be able to figure out what does and doesn't work out for me just by trial and error so I know for the future.
-Effective Communicator
For effective communicator I would first off want to be able to communicate my ideas to other people because shyness sometimes gets in the way. Of course, I would always want to contribute to groups such as the senior class committees.  I feel like senior project will overall help me communicate with others better especially when i'm describing to them what my senior topic was about. As far as getting along with others, I don't have a problem with because i'm very open to compromise unless its something very unreasonable.

Interpretive

4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
The most important thing I gained from this experience was that one should not be afraid to try something new. All this time I had avoided going to volunteer there because I did not want to do something new. Now I realize that, if it had been something bigger and more important I would have completely missed out on it.

Applied

5. How did what you did help you choose a topic?  Please explain.
What I did helped me choose a topic because I realized it's something I wouldn't mind doing all year long. Something I think is very important when deciding what to focus on all senior year. Otherwise you're stuck with a topic you're not interested in.
